A Clinical Study of Aseptic Meningitis in the First Year Life


Abstract
A study was undertaken to evaluate the clinical features of aseptic meningitis which occurred in the first year of life during the period of 4 years, from 1991 to 1994. I reviewed clinical records of 30 aseptic meningitis patients who had been
admitted
to the Department of Pediatrics, Seoul Red Cross Hospital.

2) The majority of aseptic meningitis occurred in children in the first month of life.
3) Most cases developed from June to August.
4) Fever was the most common symptom (96.7%), followed by irritability (36.7%), diarrhea(33.3%), vomiting (33.3%), poor feeding (30.0%), and etc..
5) On admission leukocytosis in the peripheral blood was showed in 80%, increased erthrocyte sedimentation rate was showed in 20%, and abnormal CRP was showed in 30%.
6) on CSF examination, leukocytes count was in the range of 22 to 1,108/§§(mean 225), protein level was in the range of 30 to 210mg/dl (mean 88.5%) and glucose level was in the range of 22 to 112mg/dl (mean 51.8).
